On this resplendent night, the sky became a canvas of cosmic wonder. On August 12 at 1 o'clock in the morning - during the height of the Perseid Meteor Shower - the northern lights reached serendipitously down into Colorado where they are seldom seen while a brilliant green shooting star slashed through the atmosphere. The emerald color of this shooting star was due to the high magnesium content of the meteor.
