Leaving the trailhead at 3:00am, I hiked about four miles up before climbing down a bolder field to reach the falls before dawn. I had to scramble through a narrow gap between a huge bolder and a vertical cliff face and then balance on the knife edge of a large granite slab in order get the perspective I wanted. I knew it would be worth the effort just to witness first light setting the falls aglow, but I must admit I would have been disappointed if I hadn't come away with the shot!
