Pinyon log and Daisies

Add to Lightbox Download
While hiking through the Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness Area southwest of Grand Junction, I came across these tiny flowers. Epic beauty on a grand scale was everywhere around me; massive rust-colored pinnacles, natural arches and monumental walls towered overhead like rosy sandstone cathedrals. Yet it was this intimate scene on a much smaller scale that grabbed my attention and demanded to be photographed. The soft daisies offset by the bold texture and pattern of the decaying pinyon log seemed to perfectly signify springtime renewal and the unending cycle of life.
